What It Is

An independent set of eyes on your new build.

A new construction inspection is an unbiased, owner-focused evaluation of a newly built home at the moments that matter most: before drywall hides the structure, before you take the keys, and before the builder's warranty runs out. We work for you โ€” not the builder.

Poured concrete foundation and basement of a new construction home in Hutchinson, MN
Why It Matters in Minnesota

A new build still has to survive our winters.

A brand-new Hutchinson home faces the same freeze-thaw cycles, heavy snow loads, and deep frost as every other home in McLeod County. Foundation backfill and grading that aren't done right lead to wet basements the first spring. Skimped attic insulation and poor air sealing show up as ice dams the first winter. Catching these at pre-drywall and before the warranty expires saves you from paying for the builder's mistakes later.

  • Foundation & grading checked so meltwater drains away, not in.
  • Insulation & air sealing verified to head off ice dams.
  • Roof flashing & ventilation inspected before the first snow.
  • Plumbing & electrical rough-ins reviewed while still visible.
What We Catch

The oversights that slip past a fast build.

Many trades, tight timelines, and hidden work mean even reputable builders leave items behind. Here's what we look for.

New poured concrete foundation inspected for cracks and backfill issues
Foundation

Foundation & backfill defects

Cracking, poor backfill, and grading that sends water toward the home instead of away from it.

New construction attic insulation and roof trusses checked for gaps and ventilation
Attic & Roof

Insulation & ventilation gaps

Missing insulation, blocked soffit vents, and roof details that invite ice dams and condensation.

Exterior and systems of a contemporary new construction home
Systems & Finish

Unfinished punch-list items

Wiring, plumbing, HVAC, and trim work left incomplete or done incorrectly before closing.

FAQ

New construction questions, answered.

Why inspect a brand-new home?
New homes are built fast by many trades, and oversights happen on even the best builds. An independent inspection catches missed flashing, plumbing and electrical defects, insulation gaps, and grading problems while they are still the builder's responsibility to fix, not yours.
What is an 11-month warranty inspection?
Most builders provide a one-year warranty on the home. An 11-month warranty inspection is done just before that year expires, so any defects that have surfaced during the first year, from drywall cracks to HVAC issues, can be documented and submitted while the builder is still obligated to repair them.
What is a pre-drywall inspection?
A pre-drywall, or phase, inspection happens after framing, wiring, and plumbing are roughed in but before insulation and drywall cover everything up. It is the one chance to verify the bones of the home, including structure, fasteners, plumbing runs, and electrical, while they are still visible.
Won't the city inspector catch everything?
Municipal inspections confirm minimum code compliance, but they are brief and not focused on workmanship or your interests as the owner. An independent inspection is more thorough, evaluates quality and function, and produces a detailed report written for you.
When should I schedule each inspection?
Schedule the pre-drywall inspection once rough-ins are complete and before insulation, the final inspection a few days before closing, and the warranty inspection around the 11-month mark. We can advise on timing for your Hutchinson-area build.
How soon will I get the report?
You receive your detailed, photo-rich report within 24 hours, with findings prioritized so you can submit a clear punch list or warranty claim to your builder.
